Singaporean businessman arrested for arms deal with Sri Lanka's LTTE rebels

Oct 01, Colombo: Singapore authorities Tuesday (29) arrested a Singaporean businessman and a former Reform Party member for supporting a terrorist organization by brokering an arms deal with Sri Lankan rebel outfit, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

The 47-year-old Balraj Naidu Ragavan who was arrested at his home in Singapore is wanted by the United States government for suspected terrorist activities. He is now being detained under Singapore's Extradition Act facing possible extradition to the US.

He was produced in the courts following his arrest and the courts scheduled his extradition hearing for next Monday (October 5).

According to the Singapore police the US has made an extradition request for his involvement in a conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization
